Embossed paper is a kind of cover decorative paper specially produced. The surface of the paper has a concave pattern that is not very noticeable, so it is called "embossing". The colors are gray, green, beige and pink, and are generally used to print monochrome covers. The embossed paper is a bit like a thin paper, and the spine is easily broken when binding. When printing, the paper has a large degree of curvature (elasticity), and paper feeding is difficult, which affects printing efficiency.
Most embossed papers have good absorbency and strong penetrability, but because of the uneven texture, the ink penetrates into the gap during printing, especially in large-area solid plates, which are difficult to dry and easy to stick. When printing four-color overprinted characters, the tones are rather dull. Consumers who do not like soft tones do not understand why the color printed on special paper is not bright enough. When printing on special paper, it is necessary to communicate the problem of printing effect with customers, so as to avoid unnecessary losses.
When printing on colored special paper, it should be noted that the surface of dark special paper cannot be printed in four colors. Only inks with metallic luster or special colors, such as gold, silver, and spot colors, can be printed. To print a four-color mesh image on the surface of light-tone embossed paper (light beige, light green, light blue, light pink, etc.), a color cast phenomenon may occur. In general, the tone will be biased toward the surface of the paper.
Therefore, it is best not to use a colored paper to print the mesh image. However, if you can use the special paper design works of different styles and colors correctly, there will be unexpected special effects. Although embossed paper has poor printability, various methods of post-press processing on the surface also produce different styles. For example, hot stamping on the surface of special paper and embossing, etc., can produce good results.
