What To Expect From A Tooth Extraction Procedure

The thought of tooth extraction can be at times quite daunting. But it is performed for multiple reasons. A tooth should be pulled out when it is infected, decayed, and cracked. Some people undergo tooth extraction to remove impacted wisdom teeth, treat dental trauma and for orthodontic or cosmetic reasons.

We gathered some of the prime points you should expect during a tooth extraction that your dentist might not tell you.

1. Too Many Intimidating Tools

Dental tools look frightening, especially for a tooth extraction procedure. But they are actually specialized tools to make tooth extraction as easy as possible for both the dentist and the patient. The dentist also has other equipment to pull out your teeth as flawlessly as possible.

2. Excessive Pulling Movement

The dental practitioner will be using a pair of forceps to grasp your tooth firmly. He or she will then rock your tooth back and forth, and even rotate them. It sounds grueling, but this will actually help enlarge the socket where your tooth is attached. After repeated application of pressure, the tooth will become loose and finally come out.

3. Odd Noises

You will hear some extraction noises. Again, this can be uncomfortable, but it is perfectly normal in this procedure. Some patients worry if their teeth are breaking or snapping, but in reality, the noise is just caused by the fracturing tooth root. This may sound like a complication but know that your dentist is fully capable and equipped to remove any broken tooth fragments. They will assure you that you will not feel any pain.

Remember, after this procedure, always follow the tooth extraction aftercare given by your dentist.
