Nbc Looks into the Unauthorized Online Transactions Involving Rf Jammers

According to NBC News, online retailers and drone technology firms are advertising RF jammers as means to deter drones or protect privacy, effectively evading laws that prohibit the sale of such devices in the United States.

A warning from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) highlights that signal jamming devices can hinder emergency calls, which poses a considerable risk to public safety communications. Furthermore, these devices can interfere with other essential communication methods and air navigation systems.

According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), utilizing a phone jammer, GPS blocker, or any signal jamming device that is specifically designed to block, disrupt, or interfere with authorized radio communications is against federal law. This restriction is applicable in various settings, including businesses, educational institutions, homes, and vehicles. Additionally, local law enforcement agencies do not have the authority to independently use jamming devices; only federal law enforcement agencies may do so, and only under certain regulatory exceptions.

According to the FCC's warning, it is prohibited to advertise, sell, distribute, import, or otherwise market jamming devices to consumers in the United States.

According to NBC, Amazon's third-party sellers, independent online shops located in China, and small domestic businesses focused on drone-related products are not complying with the law. The FCC has communicated to NBC that it is looking into the sale of jammers, including those listed on Amazon.

During its investigation, NBC News engaged with the CEO of a US firm that provides portable anti-drone radio frequency phone jammer for online purchase. The CEO indicated to NBC News that while these devices are easily obtainable for consumers with the necessary funds, the predominant interest is coming from major corporations and governmental organizations as they brace for the possibility of domestic drone terrorism.
