Cystic Fibrosis: What is it, and Can it be Treated?

Cystic fibrosis is a condition that’s expected to affect approximately 30,000 people in the United States and around 70,000 people worldwide. The condition is caused by a faulty gene that prevents the normal functioning of the body. This defective gene results in increased mucus secretion around the organs – in particular, the lungs. This unsurprisingly has numerous negative consequences for the patient.
