If you don’t know, Spectrum happens to be one of the top telecommunications companies in America, and they have millions of customers to prove it. But when there is so much success flowing around one company sometimes they take advantage of the power bestowed on them. To learn more about Charter Spectrum’s lawsuits keep reading below.
If you’ve never heard of the company Spectrum, you might be surprised to know that it also went under its corporate name Charter Communications, or its former names Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. They all have had many if not dozens of legal proceedings pressed up against them, which include the Spectrum lawsuits, which have spanned over the last decade.
Spectrum Lawsuit By State of New York
CNY Central reported that Spectrum had a major payout because it failed to deliver faster internet speeds. Customers who lived in New York are starting to receive or will soon end up receiving $6.5 million in what we call bill credits and as a part of the lawsuit settlement Spectrum has to provide free services.
Charter Spectrum actually had no choice but to settle that lawsuit that took place in December which of course alleged that the company lied about how fast their internet speeds were that or they just withheld the fast internet from their customers. Either way, they didn’t provide their customers with the internet that they were paying for.
Spectrum eventually agreed to refund their customers and they are offering free streaming services to each affected customer. Any customer that is eligible to receive the free streaming services and the refund was said they would be notified in March.
Lara Pritchard, a spokesperson for Spectrum said the following, “We are issuing credits to certain eligible customers in New Your state, in accordance with our agreement with the New York Attorney General regarding the former Time Warner Cable.”
Are Lawsuits Allowed Against Spectrum?
Well, it’s pretty complicated, just like all the other internet providers, Spectrum tries to make sure their best interests are considered. Usually, your Spectrum subscriber agreement will usually say along the lines of you can’t file lawsuits against Spectrum in most legal courts.
However, consumers know or they should know that there is nothing stopping them from faking them to small claims court. Or they can file something that’s called an arbitration claim against Spectrum.
