Should I Install Hardwood Floors?

Hardwood flooring has a lot to offer. It brings a little touch of nature's beauty inside and blends well with almost any kind of design, whether it is classic, modern, rustic, or eclectic. When all is said and done, wood flooring is almost always worth the effort and financial investment. Here are some things to think about when considering installing hardwood.

Your lifestyle

Your lifestyle is the main determinant of whether hardwood will suit you. Have you got kids or pets? Are there any high-traffic areas where you frequently rearrange furniture for gatherings or movie nights? Do you want a floor that depicts the history and life of your family? How do you like the feel of a wooden floor under your feet?

Engineered or solid wood?

Solid wood is a piece of wood that is solid, usually 34 inches thick, and that can be polished and refinished numerous times.  Engineered wood has a plywood core covered in a layer of superior wood that can be as thin as paper or as thick as 14 inches. Engineered flooring can only be refinished a maximum of once or twice, depending on the thickness of the top layer but solid wood can be refinished many times. Manufacturers can incorporate qualities like water resistance, which enables this flooring option to be used in moist spaces like kitchens and bathrooms.

Appearance

The hardest choice, whether you go with solid or engineered wood, is probably what kind of wood to use. While others might have knots or fluctuate in colour, some have finer grains or a more consistent texture. What kind of appearance are you attempting to achieve? Dark walnut may complement a more classic look, while light oak might provide a sleek Scandinavian impression.

Finished on-site or prefinished

There are two types of solid hardwood: unfinished and prefinished. After installation, unpainted wood is stained and polished at your house. You have the opportunity to test out several stain colours, and the finished product has a uniform colour throughout. Ask your installer to maintain a record of your colour or formula or to give you a small can in case you need to replace a damaged area as a precaution. Contrarily, prefinished floors are stained and sealed at the manufacturing facility.

You must also take the finish into account for both products. Both matte and high gloss are available. For a delicate, hand-rubbed appearance, some woods even have an oil or wax finish.

The finish is truly a matter of personal preference; a greater sheen will make flaws easier to spot. Today, several producers also provide texture alternatives like wire brushing.

Your local weather

Although hardwood may be used in any environment, your location must be taken into account. Wood expands in high humidity and contracts in low humidity. Any potential problems can be mitigated, as your installer can explain. You can trust Classic Flooring LLC to handle all your hardwood floor installation projects.

To keep a more constant level of humidity during the winter, you might need to operate a humidifier. You can need air conditioning in regions with oppressively hot summers. Compared to solid wood, engineered flooring is more stable and better equipped to withstand variations in humidity and temperature.
