Switch Manufacturer/Brand
Cherry MX
Cherry Corporation started out as an American company dedicated to automotive electronic switches. In 1984, they were granted a patent for a new keyboard switch that eventually defined Cherry's name Cherry MX.
In 2008, Cherry Corporation merged with Germany's ZF Electronics. This led to a refocusing of the Cherry brand, which soon became the market leader in keyboard switches.
Cherry MX switches are known for their unique cross-shaped levers, commonly referred to as "Cherry MX mounts." They are considered the best mechanical switches due to their quality and durability. But in 2004, their patent expired and the monopoly ended. Many manufacturers such as Kaihua, Gateron and Outemu copied the design and produced their own line of switches. This is why most switches are "MX style"
Now Cherry is competing with more affordable switches - some better, some not. It's clear that more and more people are looking for "audio-grade" switches, experimenting with different plastics and styles, and Cherry is lacking in that regard.
Cherry MX switches are more commonly found on OEM keyboards such as Corsair.
Kyle
The now-famous company that makes Novelkeys audiophile switches was initially brought into the map by Razer, who was tasked with developing razer-exclusive switches, similar to the Corsair-Cherry partnership.
In addition to the typical reds, blues and browns, they now offer their own audiophile switches such as Kailh Speed switches, Kailh Box switches, Kailh Low Profiles, and more.
Kailh has also partnered with NovelKeys, one of the largest retailers in the mechanical keyboard hobby, to produce a new line of switches, NK x kailh Creams, Jades, and more
Getron
Gateron switches are now common among keyboard enthusiasts, thanks to their many switches being favored. It is produced by Huizhou Jiachuang Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. established in 2000.
In addition to the typical reds, blues and browns, we found that they made several Switch lineups that have stood the test of time and are still used today. These include INKS V2, CAP switches, and more.
Gateron is the chosen manufacturer of the popular enthusiast designer brand Zeal PC from Canada. They are known for big switch brands such as Tealios, Roselios and Zealios. Also known as one of the best quality and most expensive switches on the market.
Mathias
Matias was established in Toronto in 1989. They have been in the business of making keyboards for Macs and PCs.
In the late 80s and 90s, Alps Electric Co. was seen as the Cherry Corporation we see today. Most keyboards then use Alpine switches. Now, Alps Electric no longer manufactures keyboard switches, but the Alps name is still used to denote the type of lever on the switch.
Otmu
Outemu switches are produced by Dongguan Gaote Electronics Co., Ltd.
Outemu also has its own range of switches such as Red, Black, Brown and Outemu Ice, which also have a transparent base like the Zealio switches. However, they are known to be the manufacturer of switch designer GAZZEW.
Gazzew and Outemu produce one of the most famous and valuable switches on the market, the Boba U4T and U4 switches. Known for its snappy touch, and was one of the first to make a good tactile silent switch.
Eloquent Clicks is proud to be one of the few suppliers to carry Gazzew switches!
Romer-G
Although Logitech is a large electronics group. Since they developed the Romer-G, they deserve a place on this list.
The Romer-G design differs from common MX switches. It has the shortest overall travel of any competitor at 3.2mm. It has dual contacts to record the drive. Also, the handle of the key wraps around the metal spring instead of inside. This makes the entire top of the key light up brightly.
Romer-G switches are not available off the shelf as they are exclusive to Logitech.
Duroc (JWK)
Durock (JWK) is a switch brand that produces many well-known switches and is also a manufacturer. The connection between Durock and JWK is a bit unclear to the public, but make sure Durock's switches are made in China by JWK.
Some of Durock's popular switches are POM Piano, Koalas, Linear T1, etc.
