Hair loss is a very common phenomenon nowadays. Hair loss occurs not only for aged population or elders, but remains to be a stark reality for young Indian population as well. Loss of hair can severely affect one’s personality and confidence. Taking care of your precious hair therefore, remains to be a challenge. There has been a lot of research about the reasons for the loss and how it could be treated. As per studies, it has been revealed that, there are definite pattern of hair loss, which varies according to the gender.  Research has proved that men and women have different patterns of hair loss.
Science behind Male Pattern Baldness
Androgenic alopecia is a term which explains the pattern of baldness in men. A complex process such kind of baldness is initiated with the help of several factors. The process is as explained below:

Hair grows out of hair follicles once the life cycle of the follicle is over. This leads to the follicles drying up and getting thin. As per research studies, it has been discovered that male pattern baldness is initiated at this stage. It is understood and acknowledged by experts that, dead hair follicles cannot be revived and hair lost is lost forever. However, under normal circumstances, when hair enters into catagen or telogen, phase the growth cycle is moved towards anagen phase. But, when the follicles are dead, it can hardly be revived. Therefore, this leads to male pattern baldness.
Androgenetic alopecia of men is triggered through various factors, which are genetically related. Once the genes responsible for the condition get active, it starts converting Testosterone in DHT. Excess of DHT is a deterrent, which is then attracted by enzymes.  This adds on to poison for the follicle.
To seek a treatment, there are medicines to control DHT production. But medicines prescribed needs to be consumed on a daily basis.
As the best alternative, DHT resistant grafts are extracted and implanted over the bald area.  This step facilitates the process of hair transplant.

Female Pattern Baldness

Research studies have interestingly revealed that, there is a huge similarity between female and male pattern baldness. However, the actual pattern of hair loss is distinct. Male very often lose their hair from crown. They even loose hair from front and even sides of the frontal part of the scalp. However, women lose their hair in clusters. Rather, they suffer from diffused thinning. But, the hairline remains intact in most of the cases.

As in case of men, there are specific areas on scalp which is affected by DHT resistant hair follicles. On the contrary, women lose hair throughout their head. It is usually not concluded that, women have any DHT resistant hair. This makes the reason for hair fall in women unknown and insufficient.

In case of women, it is impossible to find a good candidate for hair transplant procedures. However, women, like men can easily benefit from over the counter drugs prescribed to curb the production of DHT. However, medical experts suggest that, such medications need to be taken under the guidance of a qualified medical practitioner.
