How to check Car Insurance history?

With the Motor Vehicle Act making it compulsory to buy Insurance covers, almost every scooter, bike, and car must have a Third-Party Liability Only cover to escape penalties and third-party damage expenses. You can also buy a Comprehensive cover for enhanced protection against car damage and repair, including third-party liability. The process of finding a Car Insurance Policy history is easy.
You can check it using your registration documents, with the company, or online. The data required varies depending on the type of policy you have. Use the MParivahan website, the Insurance Information Bureau of India portal, the policy provider’s platform, or offline sources. Let us discuss them in detail:
MParivahan website
You can visit the VAHAN e-services website to check your Vehicle Insurance history. After accessing the portal, click or tap on the ‘Know Your Vehicle Details’ button in the menu bar at the top. Enter your car’s registration number and click or tap on the ‘Search Vehicle’ button. The Car Insurance expiry date and other details will be displayed on the screen.
You can also visit the official websites of either the Regional Transport Office or the State Transport Department to know the status online.
IIB portal
Visit the portal and enter your car’s registration number without including spaces or special characters. Once you fill in the required details, such as your name, address, email address, mobile number, and car registration number, you can check your policy status on the Insurance Information Bureau of India portal.
Policy provider’s platform
Visit the website of your Insurance provider. All companies maintain records of the policies bought by their customers. They may ask for varied details but generally include the vehicle’s registration number. Keeping a check on your Car Insurance status online is important as it assists you in timely renewals to avoid any problems later. In India, owners must buy a third-party liability cover to drive the car anywhere.
A Comprehensive Car Insurance Policy is better as it covers both third-party liability and your damages in case of accidents. The internet has made life easier in many ways. Furthermore, providers have enhanced their digital presence to provide better customer service. They send you regular renewal reminders through SMS or email notifications.
Offline methods
To know the status of your Motor Insurance offline, you must visit the RTO where your car was registered and provide the registration number. Alternatively, you can contact your company and speak to the agent. They give you all the details, including policy activation, expiry, and renewal dates.
Final words
Digitisation has made it easy for vehicle owners to get information about their status at their fingertips. From obtaining quotes, comparing different Insurance plans, calculating the premium, and buying the right policy, to checking the status, you can manage everything online. Moreover, it has become increasingly easy for policyholders to buy cost-effective plans, include add-on covers, and renew them before expiration.
