On the ESPN radio show "The Herd with Kyle Fuller Authentic Jersey Colin Cowherd" the popular sports analyst, Colin Cowherd, opened up his show with something I often think about when watching Cam Newton. How important are fathers and role models during the development of child athletes?

Carolina Panthers starting quarterback Cam Newton and his maturity in relation to the rookie's in this year's NFL draft class is staggering. Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, and Robert Griffin III represent the best NFL rookie QB class in three decades, if not ever. All three of these young men put Cam Newton to shame in how they manage their lives, both on and off the field.

Colin Cowherd's point, as I took it, was that it's obvious a father plays a huge role in how an athlete turns out in life as a man and a public figure. Colin's claimed Cam Newton clearly is a child in a man's body. Newton lacks the maturity of those around him because he is a diva and represents everything wrong with sports today. I will say that I completely agree with that impression of Cam Newton. Ironically though, what Colin left out of the segment is what solidified my issue with sports culture today.

Colin Cowherd is a rare analyst in Eugene Monroe Limited Jersey sports media today. This is due to his ability to provide opinion backed not by what he wants the facts to be, but by what they actually are. To put it simply Colin tells you like it is and has the FACTS to back it up. I don't always agree with the opinions shared on his show but, Colin frames things with solid logic and common sense so at the very least his opinion can be respected if not agreed with. Colin also isn't stupid when it comes to his chosen profession and how to use the stage he has built. Where The Herd differs from most is that I have never gotten the feeling that I am being fed ESPN's opinion on his show, only his. Lastly, Colin uses time on his show to say "I got it wrong" and thus gives him the credibility to remind his listeners when he was right, Just ask Fireman Ed.

The timing of this years NFL rookie class could not have come at a better time. Seeing men like Luck, Wilson, and RGIII is a welcome change to the league's landscape. The NFL is the most popular sport in America, that is just a fact, and with quality players like these young men it will continue its popularity. When the announcement Cam Newton was being investigated first.
