Ayurvedic Treatment For Uterine Fibroids

What are Uterine Fibroids?

Uterine fibroid is a gynaecological disorder that results in noncancerous growths in the uterus. Fibroids are formed during the childbearing age in ladies and sometimes turn into a serious health issue. Fibroids are not malignant, and because they don’t show any signs, symptoms, or adverse effects, they often get termed as benign tumors.

Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids

The symptoms of uterine fibroids appear when they start growing at an abnormal rate. The growth has a local mass effect that interferes with the normal working of other organs and the reproductive system. If left unchecked, fibroids can reach up to the ribcage. Under this condition, the patient experiences:

1. A sense of heaviness in the lower abdomen
2. Heavy bleeding
3. Longer than normal periods
4. Fertility issues
5. Frequent abortions
6. Constipation
7. Frequent urge to urinate
8. Back and pelvic pain
9. Exhaustion
10. Weakness

What are the Causes of Uterine Fibroids?

The exact cause of fibroids is not known. It is still a matter of research. However, doctors identify a few general causes based on years of observation and treatment.

* Imbalance in production of two sex hormones - estrogen and progesterone
* A high surge of hormones in the blood
* Deficiency of some specific micronutrients like Vitamin D and iron
* Stress
* Genetics
* Ayurveda categorizes fibroids as granthis that are formed when numerous morbid factors and doshas come together.

Ayurvedic Treatment For Uterine Fibroids

The Ayurvedic treatment for uterine fibroids works on balancing the Kapha and Vata-based doshas that led to the formation of Granthis. It is a widely accepted alternative for hysterectomy, it is completely natural and saves women from any invasive procedures. Since it is a VataKapha dominated Tridosha, its medications possess blood purifying (Rakhtshodhaka) and dissolving (Lekhana) properties.

The Ayurvedic prescription for uterine fibroids includes various medicines like Haridra Khanda, Kanchanara Guggulu, Shigru Guggulu, and others. Dietary changes are a must for women taking Ayurvedic medicines for uterine fibroids. They need to include plenty of green vegetables, fruits, small quantities of ghee, and Vitamin C-rich diet supplements in their meals. A few herbs like liquorice (mulethi) and turmeric (Haldi) are also advised for fibroid patients. However, the doses need to be supervised by an Ayurvedic doctor or practitioner.
