What are the documents and licenses needed before I start an export-import business in India?

To start an import export business, one must take following registration:

  • Registration for incorporating business: It is a basic registration to start any business. First one needs to decide what will be the form of business. It can be Proprietorship firm, Partnership firm, Limited Liability Partnership or company. Accordingly the business can be registered.

Import Export Code Registration: For carrying business of import export, IEC registration is mandatory. It is an online process and it can be done very easily. Documents required for the Import Export Code Registration.

  • PAN Card of the Applicant
  • Passport Size photograph of the applicant
  • Cancelled Cheque
  • Business address proof

GST Registration: As such GST is not mandatory for import export business, but to take the input tax credit one must take GST registration. Documents required for the GST Registration are as under:

  • PAN of applicant
  • Incorporation document
  • Constitutional document such as agreement or partnership deed or MOA & AOA as applicable
  • Business address proof
  • Bank details
