Tried and Tested: Winter moisturisers

As the weather gets colder it becomes even more important to keep your skin properly moisturised. You need a soothing product that sinks in quickly and delivers on nourishment and high-quality ingredients. If you need a little help when shopping for your new winter saviour, check out our guide.

Fade Out Brightening Moisturiser SPF 15 - 3/5

This product promises a more radiant and even skin tone and after a few days of using it I did notice my complexion looked a little brighter. I don't suffer too much from uneven tone or anything like hyperpigmentation, so I can't comment on those factors. I like the fact it has a built-in SPF, but it's a shame it's not a little higher, so points off for that. Of course it's fine for winter though!

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Night Cream - 4/5

This is the first Jurlique product I've used and I'll definitely be investing in some more. It's an antioxidant night cream which is designed to help with fine lines, hydration and smoothness, leaving skin feeling firm and smooth in the morning. It delivers on all of these promises, so much so that when I stopped using it for a couple of days I noticed a difference. I knocked a point off because it's heavily perfumed, which is fine for me but won't suit everyone.

Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Night Cream - 2/5

I have very dry skin which gets worse in the winter so I thought this could be just the ticket. As well as helping with lines and wrinkles, it's supposed to give a hit of hydration, but it wasn't enough for my skin. It's in no way the worst moisturiser I've used, but by the morning my skin felt tight and in need of something else.

iS Clinical Reparative Moisturiser - 4.5/5

As soon as you smooth this product onto your skin, you can tell you're using a high-quality cream. It absolves dry winter skin of that itchy, uncomfortable feeling and lasts for hours. My only problem with it was that it doesn't have a nicer scent, but on the plus side that means it won't cause any irritation with perfume!

What Skin Needs Skin Balm - 3.5/5

This product is good for dry skin when cold weather hits thanks to its thick, nourishing consistency. It also soothed my face when I had slightly irritated patches, which is what it promises to do on the packet. I wasn't overwhelmed by it though and while it certainly moisturised, it wasn't the easiest product to rub in. It's fine at night time when I've got time to let it soak in but I won't be using it in the mornings any time soon.
