Tips to revise better

Revision is the process of looking again and again, say it is lesson or a chapter or a specific component. As the career success is being assessed on the scores in the board examinations, skills like revision are gaining more importance. Apart from studying, taking notes, and memorization, repeated revision make learning more comprehensive, complete and perfect. Children who have basic skills of revision can save more time than others. Revision needs a diligent, structured and competitive skills that can enhance the capacity of memory retention. A group of organized revision skills can replace the gaps existed in the poor learner. This is because, research has proved that, sometimes right skills are more important than having a good IQ. Some kids follow a systematic approach in studies from day one, one of the component of their plan of study is the right revision skills. 1. Always be timely
Delaying things in any activity won`t give good results. It is a well-known fact that crammers generally don’t succeed , if they do so, the stars might have been in their favor. It is highly advisable to start revision at least from the middle of the academic year to put things into perspective. This can not only save time but allows some time to relax at some point time when a student feels exhausted. 2. Keep in mind about Quality of revision above quantity
It is not important to not how long you have spent time doing things but the quality time you spent while revising. Make sure a you choose a specific time slot of your comfort rather than following what peers do. To do this make sure you remember place, time, and situation in which you revision happens. Chose the best timeslot from Early-mid morning, Mid-late morning, Early-midafternoon, Mid-late afternoon, Early-mid evening, Mid-late evening. Place factors such as library, café, and bus/train journey, study room at home, etc. need to be carefully chosen. Be a silent listener and reader from inside to make quality a priority. Make the place peaceful before you revise.

3. Approach matters
Different people have different opinions on the approach to revise, while the simple and very basic principles that you begin from simple and move on to complex. Additionally, move in an ascending order of chapters as most of the chapters are organized in a systematic manner by the schools and curriculum developers. When you start studying, make enough notes on the first look as this can save a lot in the subsequent revision by simply going through handy notes instead of going in depth on every corner of the text book. It is advisable to spend 10 minutes on the previous day`s session as this can provide a proper connection between the topics.

4. Remember some basics
Every student must use his own hand written notes prepared over the entire year. This is very important as it help in better recollection of the content. It may be necessary to take help of friends, family, teachers and seniors while doing this as they might be of some help in advising or helping to organize. Followed by the revision of a major topic or studying for at least 60 – 90 minutes, it is good to take a short break. Some children perform better when they hear things rather than when they study. For such kids, own-recorded notes makes real sense. Hearing over and over sometimes unconsciously fill the stuff into brain, however it may not be the right method for every student. It is good to give some time and space to body and mind by allowing some time to sleep, and rest is important. Eating nutritious food that improves brain can do great. Staying hydrated, conscious and controlled is useful rather than being blindly operated.
5. Use right tools
Using charts, podcasts, visual materials, a good syllabus over the normal way of notes sometimes add more weightage and balance. Use mind maps, power points and info graphics available for almost every topic in the internet. Make use of creative teaching tool available in the schools as some of them provide it free of cost.
