They come Watering Can up with massive

They come Watering Can up with massive yellow flowers just minutes after cutting the grass and make everything look scruffy, so I like to get rid of them.

Winter is the perfect time to aerate your lawn.

It stops soil compaction, allows nutrients to get down into the roots and of course, it allows that all important winter moisture to get right down into the ground.

Simply take an ordinary garden fork, push it into the ground and wobble it backwards and forwards at about 15 centimetre intervals until the whole lawn is finished.

When it comes to feeding a lawn, it's important to make sure that the soil hasn't become too acidic. Most lawn fertilisers are quite acid, so you may need to do a pH test.

It is good to do a test once every couple of years and aim to get the pH to around about 6 to 7 which is close to neutral. The lawn will love it.

Dolomite lime will sweeten the soil. Put down the dolomite lime at about one handful per square metre about two weeks before you fertilise.

When it comes to fertilising, Stephen prefers to use one of the pelletised chicken manures because they are slow acting, safe and organic.

With all this TLC, my lawn will be lush and green this spring. If further information is required, please contact your local nursery or garden  Garden Shredder centre.
