Additional advice: How to update your BIOS
The previous BIOS was 2.30, and this one had BIOS 1.80. The updater didn't work in Windows, crashing with PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, WinFlash64.sys being responsible.
There is also a bootable option but it won't flash the BIOS if there isn't a battery. The battery was completely dead so I had to use my UPS. It only appeared in Windows when connected via USB. This flash drive method is better if your laptop has a functioning battery.
I was able to bypass this problem by installing Windows 7 on my hard drive and then running the update from the new install. According to what I've read online, Phoenix BIOSs use WinFlash to update from Windows. Windows versions after 7 are not compatible with it.
If you have 7 installed or 7 install media, you may use the memory test tool to check if your machine has enough memory. Start -> Search for "memtest" and select the recommended option. Your laptop will then restart to test your memory and then restart.
Solution 1: Be patient.
If "Preparing Windows to Configure" does not go away after a while, try restarting your computer. If 'Preparing to customise Windows' does not disappear after a while, your patience may be put to the test. Depending on the speed of your machine, this process could take several hours. It is entirely dependent on the device. It could be a mistake if the configuration takes more than three hours.
Solution 2: Turn off the computer and unplug power supply
Windows Update is still being processed after several hours. Try restarting your computer by pressing and holding down the reset button. If that fails, you can manually turn off your computer by pressing the reset button. The main power supply should be disconnected from the computer. You will need to disconnect the main power supply for laptops. If you are unable to remove the batteries, the power cord can be left on until it runs out and then the laptop will shut down.
After waiting a while, restart your computer or laptop. Windows 10 will attempt to install the update once again. This should resolve the problem in most cases.
Updates should be uninstalled as a third option.
Windows can get caught in a loop and keep attempting to update the file. The Windows start-up options can be used to resolve this issue. When the computer starts up, press [Shift] +[F8] to view these choices. If this doesn't work, switch on your computer and then turn it off using the power button. This procedure can be repeated as needed. The start-up options in Windows 10 will now appear. In the Advanced Troubleshooting Options, choose Uninstall Updates. This will remove any updates that have been installed recently.
Deinstall updates as a third option.
Windows occasionally becomes stuck in a loop, attempting to update the file repeatedly. Using the Windows start-up options, you can resolve this issue. At startup, press [Shift] +[F8] to access these settings. If it doesn't work, try turning on and off your computer using the power button. This procedure can be performed as many times as necessary. Start-up choices in Windows 10 will now appear. In Advanced Troubleshooting Options, choose Uninstall Updates. Any updates that have been installed recently will be deleted as a result of this action.
