They bombard us with supposedly serious food information to lead us to consume certain products, but the truth is only one and today we reveal it to you
Some say that you have to consume three dairy products a day, others that you have to watch the amount of eggs, others that if the coffee is bad ... and thus a long list of information that we take for granted but that in reality it is not.
Apart from the interests that lead one or another expert or entity to advise certain dietary guidelines, there is only one truth. The Dr. Miguel Ángel Martínez-González is one of the few health professionals who are truly involved in dismantling the myths of the food industry. In fact, he has just published a book with Planeta of which he does not take a penny, since all the proceeds are donated to nutrition and dietetics research.
The seven lies they tell you about food and you believe them
These intentionally generated doubts and the creation of confusion and darkness are facilitating the maintenance of myths and legends without any foundation that lead us to eat poorly and develop numerous diseases.
Below we collect seven lies that they tell us and we believe, extracted from the aforementioned book, what do you eat?
1) "Dairy is essential"
They tell us to consume three glasses of milk a day, and it is "clearly over the top." "A myth to which you have to say goodbye. You don't need three glasses of milk a day. Such a recommendation had and has more commercial than health motivation."
Other non-dairy sources of calcium are, for example, dried figs, broccoli, almonds, salmon, sardines, anchovies, spinach or beans. "So we should not consider dairy as the great panacea for healthy bones."

2) "Beware of coffee"
Much research assures that coffee is bad because it raises the tension and is an addictive toxic. "Coffee is a complex mixture of substances, such as chlorogenic acid and many other phenols, that have a clear health benefit."
In many diets, coffee is the main source of polyphenols, these are plant substances with an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect that are very interesting in preventive medicine. " Protection against cardiovascular disease and cancer was also proven (today it is scientifically accepted that it is part of the protective dietary pattern against liver cancer)."
3) "Eating too many eggs is bad"
It is true that egg yolks have a lot of cholesterol and that having high cholesterol is a risk factor for heart attacks. But an international team in which Dr. Martínez-González participated analyzed thirty studies that included 983,493 individuals to see whether or not those who ate more eggs developed more coronary disease during follow-up; the same with various studies that included 284,240 participants to see the risk of stroke; 108,563 for heart failure, and 601,226 for cardiovascular disease mortality. Conclusion: there was no relationship between egg consumption and cardiovascular risk.

4) "Nuts are bad because they make you fat"
Nuts are very useful in the diet as they are well preserved, easily dosed, satiating and available to the consumer. There are many rigorous scientific studies that have found beneficial effects on cardiovascular health and the prevention of obesity.
In addition, it has been proven that those who eat them regularly have a lower risk of dying from heart attacks. In fact, your risks of heart attack or cardiovascular disease could be lowered 20-40% by eating a handful several times a week.
It is about eliminating a less healthy food and replacing it with the same calories in the form of nuts. This is very important, because if you add a handful of peeled nuts to your diet every day — about 200 calories per 30 grams — you could theoretically gain five kilos in a year, explains Martínez-González.
Truth: the risks of heart attack or cardiovascular disease could decrease 20-40% by eating a handful several times a week
5) "No sugar"
From ketchup to vinegars, through hamburger buns and even mustard. Dozens of products carry added sugars, especially since the 1970s. The health hazards of sugar, and especially added sugars, are of such a caliber that they justify a control similar to that applied to alcohol.
There is nothing wrong with sugar, our brain needs it and it will work badly if it is not given enough. For the industry, it is a guarantee of sale, because the added sugars hook the consumer and can be introduced into all types of food.

6) "Bread is very healthy"
We already tell you the truth about bread in Vozpópuli. " Bread, potatoes, pasta and rice contain complex carbohydrates and are therefore the flagship of the Mediterranean diet. It is not true. It is always recommended to take pasta al dente as it has a low glycemic index, and always opt for pasta and brown rice rich in fiber and nutrients. It is well proven that the healthiest alternative is whole wheat bread, "says the doctor.

7) "Beer is healthy"
"Beer is a healthy drink, the ideal to hydrate," they tell us, and it is not true. Beer has diuretic properties, which means that it increases the loss of water through the urine. That is, it has a dehydrating effect, the opposite of what we are looking for. The beer industry is very profitable. He has devoted a substantial portion of his earnings to techniques designed to promote the idea that beer is health.
