How does Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test Works?
This test requires a blood sample from the mother and a cheek-swab sample from the alleged father. Free-floating fetal DNA combines with the mother's DNA by passing through the placenta into the mother's bloodstream. The fetal DNA is isolated & analyzed during testing and then compared to the possible father's DNA profile.
If the DNA analysis shows a 99.99% match, then the paternity is established with the baby. And if it is 0% inclusion, then paternity is not established.
Limitations of Paternity DNA Test while Pregnant
A prenatal paternity test cannot be performed for a woman expecting twins or multiples.
This test does not involve the sex determination of the unborn baby. Doing so is a punishable offense, and we discourage such practices.
