U. S. District Judge Lance Africk, whom President George W. Bush appointed to the court, handed down the punishment Wednesday for Randi "Teddy P." Lewis, 35, of suburban Houston. In exchange for the government dropping four other charges, Lewis pleaded guilty Nov. 2 to sex trafficking a person younger than 14, which carries a prison term of 15 years to life.
Prosecutors said Lewis met a co-conspirator, Chelsea Gee, 20, when she was about 16 years old and recruited her for commercial sex. He made her follow his rules, including what to wear and how to behave, and set "the amount of money she was expected to earn from engaging in daily commercial sex acts," the U.S. attorney's office said.
They eventually met a 13-year-old girl in the Houston area, and Gee recruited her, too. The three traveled by bus in 2021 to New Orleans, where Lewis instructed the females to walk the streets soliciting customers and advertised their sexually explicit photos online. Lewis and Gee also were accused of drugging the girl to control her behavior.
Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies found the girl at a Terrytown motel on June 24, 2021, and arrested Lewis and Gee.
