Shohei Ohtani (29, Los Angeles Angels) has been selected as a finalist for the American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the third consecutive year and is aiming to win the award for the second time in 2021.

On the 7th (Korean time), the Major League Baseball Secretariat revealed the final candidates for AL and National League (NL) MVP, Cy Young Award, and Rookie of the Year awards.

The Major League Secretariat selected and announced the top three players as 'final candidates' for 'popularity'.

The Rookie of the Year winner will be revealed on the 14th, the Coach of the Year winner will be revealed on the 15th.

The Cy Young Award winner will be revealed on the 16th, and the MVP will be announced on the 17th.

Ohtani was selected as a finalist for AL MVP along with shortstop Corey Seager and second baseman Marcus Siemian of the Texas Rangers, who won the World Series.

Shohei Ohtani, who also doubles as a pitcher, posted a batting average of 0.304, 44 home runs, 95 RBI, 20 stolen bases, and an OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) of 1.066 as a batter.

He ranks first in the AL in home runs and OPS.

As a pitcher, he had 10 wins, 5 losses, an ERA of 3.14, and 167 strikeouts.

Seager posted a batting average of 0.327, 33 home runs, 96 RBI, and 1.013 OPS, and Marcus Siemien posted a batting average of 0.276, 29 home runs, 100 RBI, and OPS of 0.826.

Ohtani is likely to win his second MVP award in his career.

The final candidates for NL MVP are outfielders Ronald Acuña Jr. (Atlanta Braves), Mookie Betts, and first baseman Freddie Freeman (Los Angeles Dodgers).

Acuña Jr. played in 159 games during this year's regular season, recording an impressive batting average of 0.337, 41 home runs, 106 RBI, 73 stolen bases, and an OPS of 1.012.

He also set major league records of 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases.

Betts had a batting average of 0.307, 39 home runs, 107 RBI, and an OPS of 0.987, while Freeman had a batting average of 0.331, 29 home runs, 102 RBI, and an OPS of 0.977, but Acuña Jr.'s performance was superior.

Jack Gallen (Arizona Diamondbacks), Blake Snell (San Diego Padres), and Logan Webb (San Francisco Giants) won the NL Cy Young Award, while Gerrit Cole (New York Yankees)

Kevin Gozman (Toronto Blue Jays), and Sonny Gray (Minnesota Twins) won the AL Cy Young Award.
