REVIEW: Crossing two decades, from the 1980s, when gang wars and shootouts were making headlines in Mumbai, to the early 2000s, we trace a young Bhaskar who had been raised with his mom in Mangalore. However, one day Bhaskar injures his class teacher, who rolls his mother inappropriately. Post this incident. He comes to Mumbai, where Rama Shetty (Sikander Kher), a small-time criminal, mentors him.
Rama gave him a janitor job at a restaurant, assuming he will be of some assistance in the long run. Having improved the ranks and gained fame as an encounter expert, will Bhaskar be in a position to make his department thrilled by making Mumbai a crime-free town again? Or will he find yourself swimming in the pool of foes within the city along with his department?
Movies like'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ and shootout At Lokhandwala’ have set such high standards in this genre that someone can not help but compare mum Bhai’ with these films. It lacks the joys of a gang-war series and limits itself to merely demonstrating how the great cop becomes a dirty one. In a nutshell, it is a one-time watch collection, mainly because of its performances.

With perfect expressions, Angad steals the show since Bhaskar. His transformation from a teenager hailing from a little village at Mangalore, who finishes up Mumbai’s streets and eventually becomes an ATS officer, is seamless. He was named'ATS ka Kumble’, and that he justifies the title with his actions. Sikander’s character has two sides – a terrifying gangster, who doesn’t think before shooting anybody, and yet another one is Bhaskar’s, Rama Anna. She always supports Bhasker and makes him street-smart. Sikander is excellent at enjoying the components.
This 12-episode series, directed by Akshay Choubey, is engaging, and the best part is how he integrates the voice-over (by Sharad Khedkar) to create the story consistently. The action sequences disappoint as it restricts itself only to gunshots, and there are no excellent cop-criminal chases and even good action scenes. Akshay lends additional support to the screenplay together with his team of writers – Apoorva Lakhia, Chintan Gandhi, Chintan Shah, and Raj Vasant – and together they have nicely penned down the story of an arrogant and power-hungry police officer with a permit to kill, who allies with journalists, politicians, and gangsters for his ambitions. However, the transition between the past and the current timelines is not eloquent enough and leaves the story slow and tedious to watch. The set is designed to challenge audiences to imagine they’re watching an internet series straight out of the ‘80s. Nonetheless, the title track’s Gayle Mumbai Ke Asli Bhai Log’, with a dash of Marathi rap, is hummable.
