In order to distinguish their optical modules, different manufacturers can distinguish them by their wavelength, transmission distance, package, etc.do you know any other methods?

Commonly used optical modules have four wavelengths,850nm,1310nm,1490nm and 1550nm.Among them, the pull ring color of the Gigabit SFP optical module 850nm is black, the pull ring color of 1310nm is blue, and the pull ring color of 1490nm is purple. However, the pull ring color of 1550nm is usually yellow, and we usually use the green pull ring for optical modules over 80km.

  See the table for details:

For the CWDM optical module, the color of its pull ring is colorful, with a total of 18 wavelengths. The wavelength band is divided into front wave and back wave, and the front wave is 1270nm-1450nm;The back wave is 1470nm-1610nm;See the table below for the specific colors of the pull ring corresponding to the wavelength.

10g dual fiber optical module mainly has three wavelengths:850nm,1310nm and 1550nm.The pull ring color corresponding to 850nm is black, the pull ring color of 1310nm is blue, the pull ring color of 1550nm 40km is red,and the pull ring color of 1550nm 80km is white.

The wavelength and pull ring color of 10G single fiber optical module are 1270nm(black),1330nm(blue),1490nm(purple)and 1550nm(yellow).

Optical module is the most common photoelectric conversion device. In the optical communication network, the transmission capacity is the most important parameter. The transmission distance of the optical module is also different.

1.Transmission distance and application of long distance module

As one of the important factors of optical module, transmission distance is also divided into short-range optical module,medium-range optical module and long-range optical module. The short distance optical module supports a link length of 2km or less, the medium distance optical module supports a link length of 10-20km,and the long distance optical module supports a link length of 40km or more. The transmitted optical power at the transmitting end,the receiving sensitivity at the receiving end and the optical attenuation coefficient are three factors that affect the optical transmission distance.

The transmission distance of the optical module is not the farther the better, and appropriate solutions should be taken as appropriate.Long distance optical modules are mainly used in metropolitan area network, optical synchronous digital transmission network,Ethernet, fiber channel, synchronous digital system, synchronous optical fiber network, telecommunications and other fields.

2.What are the types of long-distance optical modules?

Among optical module types such as SFP,SFP+,SFP 28,qsfp+and qsfp28,there are long-distance optical modules.Among them, the common specifications of long-distance optical modules are 40km,80km,120km,etc.

3.Precautions for use of long-distance optical module

Because the long-distance optical module has strict requirements on the receiving power range,if the receiving sensitivity is exceeded,it is easy to cause damage to the optical module. In order to reduce the long-distance optical module failure caused by improper use,the following precautions should be taken during use:

(1)Test the optical power at the receiving end before connection. If the optical power is too strong, consider using an appropriate attenuator to add additional attenuation to meet the connection requirements.

(2)When a single-mode optical module with a transmission distance of more than 10km transmits, the optical power at the receiving end cannot exceed the saturated optical power value.

(3)Long distance optical modules can be used in 10km link applications without adding attenuation. In general, modules over 40km need to add attenuation and cannot be directly connected, otherwise it is easy to damage the transmitting and receiving components.
