When you apply dark eye makeup, choose the right colors that will accentuate the color and shape of your eyes. Dark makeup works well for those who have almond-shaped eyes, since it is easy to work around their gentle curves. For those of you who have light-colored eyes, go for soft colors like brown when choosing a mascara, eyeliner, or eyeshadow. Those with black or dark brown eyes can go for black eyeliner and mascara and deep shades of gray eyeshadow, to bring out the depth of your eyes.
First, use a pencil eyeliner for the lower rim of your eyes, making the line slightly thicker as you go along. Using the pad of your finger or a piece of cotton, gently blot the eyeliner to give it a smudgy look.
Next, apply liquid eyeliner to the top lid; don't make it too thick or it will overwhelm your features. Slightly draw the eyeliner brush in quick outward strokes, for a winged effect. Wait for it dry before applying a second coat.
Choose a chocolaty brown eyeshadow to apply over the eyeliner, following its shape. With a lighter shade of brown, apply a second coat just above the area with the dark brown eyeshadow. Use the pad of your finger or an angled brush to blend the two colors where they meet, to create a gradient effect.
Lastly, apply two coats of mascara, wriggling the brush between your lashes to make sure they're evenly coated. For better results, use a mascara that comes with an affixed primer; it lengthens and thickens eyelashes when used as a base coat. When opting for such a dramatic look, use a nude lipstick and just a touch of blush on the apples of your cheeks; garish or bold colors will make you look clownish.
