Can we edit a company name once it was already created?

Instead on using word edit, let’s say to change the name, because it is already registered and certificates are not editable.

There can be various reasons to change the name from errors to its interpretation and re-branding purpose. These changes are doable under Companies Act, 2013.

The Act lays specific process to change the company name after its incorporation.

I would state the process in brief, which is explained in the blog link provided in footnote[1]

  • Conduct board meeting to decide name and authorise to process.
  • Reserve company name
  • Once the name is reserved, obtain member’s consent for name change
  • Upon obtaining consent, proceed for filing of forms for name change with MCA.
  • The MCA will process the application and issue new certificate of incorporation with changed name, subject to approval.

I hope this helps you and if you have any query, do visit the blog or connect with an expert at LegalWiz.in.
