OK everyone. This has been a rough week for many of us, myself included.
So I did what any normal, self-respecting 28 year old would do in times like these: I spent an evening in fetal position watching The Lion King.

Something was different this time though. The movie felt much more immediate, much more real. And that’s when I had an epiphany:
Right now, we are Simba halfway through The Lion King.
It’s pretty simple to see:
We are REALLY upset, because something terrible just happened.
There was an unexpected stampede…
And now, very suddenly, a frightening leader is in power…
With a God complex and some fascist tendencies…
And a pretty unimpressive set of lieutenants.
Halfway through The Lion King, things are looking grim.
If you’re Simba, it feels like everything good has left your life forever.
And if you’re the Pride, you struggle to see anything but darkness ahead.
But of course, the story doesn’t end there.
Yes, it’s takes some time. And yes, there are some pretty dark days.
But eventually, we are going to make some new allies…
Rediscover who we are…
Possibly grow a sick beard during a montage…
And come back fiercely four years later.
And then we will reclaim the diverse country we love…
Where everyone can be themselves…
And love trumps hate.
So even though right now we feel like we’re here:
Today, things may seem grim. But if we fight for what is noble and good, then before long the America we believe in will be king again.
