Why Students are Struggling to Focus on Remote Learning

When it comes to teaching students from home, one of the biggest challenges students and educators face is a lack of focus. Indeed, many students are finding it hard to focus on their studies from home. As a result of this, their studies are beginning to suffer – and this can have big consequences in terms of a child’s growth and development!

But why is it that students are struggling to focus on their home learning, anyway? And what can parents and teachers do to help students with focusing on their remote learning?

Why Focusing on School Work is Proving a Challenge

For students trying to adjust to the new remote learning curriculum imposed upon them by Coronavirus, working from home can be incredibly difficult. Indeed, remote learning can pose a huge number of different challenges; as such, many students are falling behind in their studies due to a lack of focus.

Understanding why students are struggling to focus on their work from home life is important for tailoring plans that will help them better focus on the work they’ve been set. But why is it so hard for them to focus? Today, we’ll cover some of the key factors that make it hard for students to focus on their school work.

Lack of Structure

One of the biggest challenges for many children is the lack of structure that comes with remote learning. Indeed, many students are finding that remote learning means they don’t have a normal, structured day, which means that they are not in the mindset to work.

Distractions

External distractions can be a real issue in remote learning; indeed, this is arguably one of the biggest challenges in terms of a student’s ability to focus! As such, students should ideally try to work in an environment where there are less likely to get distracted; this, in turn, will help them get focused and then stay focused on their work. Content for learners should also be engaging to help students avoid getting distracted; online educational games are a good way to break up potentially monotonous lessons!

Lack of Time Management

Similar to a lack of structure, having a lack of time management for their work can also be a real challenge for many! Many students have never had to manage their own time before properly, and so the sudden need to develop time management skills has often made things difficult for them! As such, teachers and parents should support good time management by providing students with deadlines and the like.
