IThe Juicy Girls are hitting the small screen. Those in fashion circles know the rags to riches story of Juicy Couture founders Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor is the stuff dreams – and good television – are made of, and so do “Gossip Girl” producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The duo’s Fake Empire productions is partnering with Mila Kunis’ Orchard Farms Productions to create an hourlong show for Freeform (formerly known as ABC Family), based on the duo’s memoir “The Glitter Plan,” which was written by former Los Angeles Times fashion critic Booth Moore.
Given the success of “Gossip Girl,” and “Sex and the City” before it, fashion-focused scripted series are a sure bet. Skaist-Levy and Nash-Taylor, who tend to speak in unison, told WWD they never imagined a television show when they set up shop in Nash-Taylor’s apartment with $200. “But Why not?! Dreams do come true. It’s Chapter 2, Pam and Gela style, where anything is possible. Being a TV character seems like the perfect next chapter to our magical fairytale,” they said.
As for their dream casting, Nash-Taylor’s is Rooney Mara and Skaist-Levy picksJennifer Lawrence. The secondary characters in the tale are still a mystery, but perhaps they’ll cast a pop heartthrob as one woman’s husband, as Nash Taylor is married to Duran Duran guitarist John Taylor.
If “Project Runway” and “The Rachel Zoe Project” have inspired kids to become designers and stylists, it’s pretty clear who will like this show: “Every girl who has dreamed of creating a fashion empire with their best friend,” said Skaist-Levy. Added Nash-Taylor, “Every rockin’ girl who proudly loved Juicy Couture and now is obsessed with Pam and Gela.
