How to prevent corrosion or rust on ASTM F1554 bolts?

ASTM F1554 bolts are high strength carbon steel anchor bolts, commonly used in structural and civil engineering. Because they are mostly plain or low alloy steel, they’re susceptible to corrosion and rust, especially in outdoor or humid environments.

F1554 bolts come in Grades 36, 55, and 105. For highly corrosive environments, consider below coatings:

Hot-Dip Galvanizing:
Provides a thick, durable zinc layer.
Protects the steel even if coating is scratched (sacrificial protection).
Ideal for outdoor or marine environments.

How does duplex stainless steel resist stress corrosion cracking?

Duplex stainless steels contain roughly 50% austenite and 50% ferrite. Ferrite is inherently much more resistant to chloride-induced SCC than austenite whereas Austenite provides toughness and ductility, helping prevent brittle cracking.

Compared with fully austenitic stainless steels, it has lower nickel content which helps to lower SCC susceptibility.
