Inspired by the festive season, the Indian Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD) is organising the ‘India Runway Week 2015’. The fifth edition will see young designers at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in the city over the weekend unleashing their creativity.

The three-day event has a line-up of exhibitions, premier catwalk shows featuring the youngest slot of talented Indian designers. Consisting of three categories namely

new-gen, budding designers and emerging designers, the platform will host 14 fashion shows including a grand opening show by Himmat Singh. Gauhar Khan will be a show stopper for Akassh K Agarwal and the cast of the film, Calender Girls with Director Madhur Bhandarkar and Adah Sharma (from 1920 and Hasee Toh Phasee) will be walking the ramp at the Grand Finale for Shravan Kumar Ramaswamy.

Founder of IFFD, Avinash Pathania says this kind of platform might not be available for young designers. “In other fashion weeks, there are strict rules like the need to be a member of an organisation for a certain time to showcase their collection. But here, the shortlisted 37 designers have been chosen from around 150 applications without limiting to experience factor.”

Some of the young designers include Rishi and Soujit, Kanika and Sugandh, Bani Pasricha, Divya Shah and Lipsa Jain, Ojasvita Mahendru, Pallavi A Agrawal, Purvi and Aanal, Ankita and Akshita, Ishan Jain among others.

A graduate of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) and passionate about jewellery, Ojasvita Mahendru introduced her own label ORNAMAS in 2013 after a rigorous working experience under brands like Swarovski and Gitanjali Group.

Christened as ‘Raag Vasanti’, Mahendru tells Metrolife, “It signifies the welcoming of the spring season and Lord Krishna’s rasleela with his gopis.” She adds, “The brightness of the collection will be dramatic yet wearable.”

Megha Kumari and Jigar Mali (Megha and Jigar) who have their boutique at Hauz Khas Village will present Indian contour inspired heritage-bride theme. They will be showcasing “the Indian traditional love” with all Banarasi fabrics. Says 28-year-old Kumari, “As the festive season has already begun, we have worked on rich and royal bride look.”

Liz Paul from ‘Liz Paul by Satya and Liz’ who are participating for the second time shares, “We are doing autumn and winter 2015. Inspired by Mughal architecture and the jharokas, motifs of Jaisalmer and Jaipur etc, we have added a twist with West-inspired silhouettes.”Read more at:www.marieprom.co.uk/pink-prom-dresses | www.marieprom.co.uk/green-prom-dresses
