I know nothing is really out yet in terms of a working Dark and Darker clone but there's tons Dark And Darker Gold being developed right now, but I couldn't find a solid list anywhere. I know about Dark but can't remember any of the other ones I saw. What are the most promising clones you've seen so far?
Are they good tho? Won't know until they are out. Dark looks like absolute dog water and the way the dev is giving out keys makes me think it's a scam. Project crawl looks promising but it's from a studio no one has ever heard of so there is rumors that it's backed by nexon.
They made a post about the rumours the other day, the relevant part is:
"And we want to make it crystal clear - we have absolutely zero affiliation with Nexon."
and also this one for the people who think every DaD clone is just going to be a scam:
"For those thinking we might be scammers, we want to put your worries to rest - we won't ask for a dime until Early Access. No NFTs, no crowdfunding, no gimmicks - period. We just want to bring you the best game possible as soon as we can. We hope this brings some clarity so we can refocus our energy on development again. We won't engage further on these unrelated topics going forward."
It's actually quite similar. PVPVE, same-map world, when you die you lose everything.
Yeah but it doesn’t use a looting or inventory structure. Weapons are acquired through the lobby, or on rare occasion you can find something in the bayou, but you don’t just loot it, you swap. That’s the biggest difference by far. It also doesn’t use a closing circle (which tbh is a pretty lame mechanic that both supplements and exacerbates poor level design)
Hunt Showdown is a very different game, but superficially it has buying Dark And Darker Gold some similarities. It’s also just way fucking better than DaD, but tbf DaD is a pre-alpha.
