What To Do When Your Bathroom Floods

If you are at a loss of what to do with a flooded bathroom or even flooded house, you need to read the following steps. Many may not think of critical steps that can ease the stress of dealing with a flood.

Step 1: Turn off Water

Try to find the origin of the water and turn it off. If it is the toilet or a sink, there is usually a knob that can be turned. If it is a broken pipe and you don't know how to turn off the water to the house, call a plumber or other flood repair expert for advice.

Step 2: Take Pictures

If the flood is bad enough, you need to take pictures for proof to your insurance company. Be sure to document everything that was damaged with pictures and notes. 

Step 3: Excavate Water

Using a wet/dry vacuum to remove water, plugging it in away from the water. If you do not have a vacuum suitable for this or do not have electricity, use buckets and towels to dry the area as much as possible. 

Step 4: Set up Fans

To avoid mold, fans need to be set up as quickly as possible. Put as many high-powered fans on the floor and walls as possible. If you have carpet, you may consider pulling up the carpet to make sure to dry the padding and wood underneath. You will have to get a professional to put it back in.

Step 5: Find the Source

After the drying is being done, look for the cause of the flood. Fix the problem by calling a local plumber before you turn the water back on.
