In most homes, the laundry room is one of the rooms that takes in the most water. The washing machine can take in so much water, that lack of constant care could cause flooding damage. Here are some tips for preventive care on laundry room plumbing.
1. Check water supply lines often. Any sign of decay, bubbling, or tears in the line should warn the owner to replace the line as soon as possible.
2. Choose stainless steel flex lines over rubber, since rubber lines are more prone to breaking soon.
3. Allow a 3-4 inch between the washing machine and the wall to allow for the line to have sufficient space.
4. Regularly inspect drain and filters on the washing machine. When they are stopped up, they need to be cleaned immediately or replaced.
5. When not in use, turn off cold and hot valves. This will allow for the pressure to decrease on the lines.
If, despite these precautions, you have a laundry plumbing disaster please contact a local plumbing contractor in your area to assess the problems.
