Gosh, this looks so complex. On the one hand, kudos for Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta keeping the original game intact so there will not be a riot over fluctuations people do not like. However on the flip side, since they are remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they would only go 100% and synchronize character models entirely. Giving old players a few free style items and unlocks will be enough to bribe everyone to accept the new system.

Synchronizing 100% character models does not sound easy. The dilemma is that the older outfits and coating wear are modeled to fit the old pso2 body. In order to synchronize it, they'd have to recreate from scratch (haha pun) 8 decades of cosmetics. That's unlikely to happen. I mean that I would be ready to drop a certain proportion of those cosmetics to help keep things intact around variations. As long as there's a steady feed of cool new things to replace it, I do not mind. I always rotate out my older looks anyhow. As long as the character models translate 1:1 it'll still feel just like mine.

I'd imagine a massive complication to this entails a lot of the cosmetics from the Japanese side of things that were exclusive to collaborations, promotional events, and events which no longer exist. The instance I can think of is that the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I can envision the clothing and weapons could definitely be given a visual upgrade alongside everything else but that I do not exactly know how the licensing or the way the lawful side of this collaboration functions where I'd wish it was as easy as Sega going through and upgrading the assets but I don't understand about how much of Capcom is involved in this procedure.

The same is applicable to collaborations like the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I don't understand how much of Square Enix is involved that for Sega to have the ability to update assets there. If it was only just Phantasy Star-related things (like character outfits, cameos from different games, or other Sega-related possessions ) I could imagine this likely would have been achieved, or would be carried out. But in the Global version we don't have the presence of Cougar NX so I do not know if there are other complications seeing Sega's own properties which may also contribute not to updating everything they could within reason.

I can envision that probably out there we'll still see somebody wearing those older collaboration items even when they aren't awakened to the very same standards as new cosmetics in a similar way and that there definitely would have been outrage if it had been made obsolete or unusable. Collabs who have experienced their cosmetics removed nevertheless have their resources exist on cheap PSO2 Meseta the sport so those will likely still be accessible for jp players.
