Over the past year peplum has found an easy and more accessible way of entering our wardrobes with a range of simple and fun peplum inserts in dresses and tops. Why wear a red peplum dress when it can be peplummed up!

Have a look at our favourite peplum dresses and peplum tops that are oh-so-easy to pull off in our regular lives.Fashion 101 teaches us to always turn to black when nothing else works out. We often pick black dresses to wear to work, whether an office party or event. It says formal and simple at the same time. Now what if your dress could say formal, simple and stylish? Wear a peplum dress to work and watch yourself turn into a chic corporate powerhouse.Peplum is a ruffled accent applied around the waistline of dresses and other apparel pieces, as a sort of short over-skirt. It can vary in length, as well as in design and how much it flares out. Sometimes it is only applied partly around the waist; at the sides.

Peplum dresses give the illusion of a shaped waist to women with less defined waistline, such as ones with rectangle and apple body shapes. When choosing a peplum go for sleek, sculptural shapes for more elegant, lady-like look, just like this show-stopping Heidi Higgins dress in vibrant fuchsia (click here for a closer view)

Another tip to keep in mind: by adding an additional horizontal line across your hips, a peplum shortens your leg length. The kindest point for your skirt to end is at the knee, or just below, where your leg shape narrows. Follow this natural break in the line of your legs for your skirt hem, and be wary of ankle boots and ankle-strapped sandals. The court shoe is your best choice
