Are Invisalign a Type of Orthodontic Treatment?

There are many types of orthodontic treatments that you can get to help improve the look and appearance of your teeth. One of the most popular choices is to get Invisalign. In fact, this is a really popular one compared to getting braces because they are flexible, the treatment time is less, and they disappear and are harder to see compared to the traditional braces. It is possible for both adults and kids to wear Invisalign, allowing everyone to get the perfectly straight teeth they desire.

Many of our patients will choose to get Invisalign to help correct the alignment of their teeth, especially if they are not also dealing with a severe bite issue at the same time. This treatment is a specialty that will move teeth discreetly, without having to make big alterations in the alignment or location of the teeth. If you just need to move the teeth a little bit, without some major changes, Invisalign is going to work well for you. But if you need intense changes to the teeth, then our team will likely recommend traditional braces.

When you get a treatment done with Invisalign, your orthodontist is going to create some plastic aligners that will gradually move your teeth. Using special imaging technology, these can be made to fit into your mouth and are custom-made. You will need to change them out every one to two weeks to keep making the minor adjustments. Depending on the patient and how they respond, the treatment can take somewhere between 12 to 18 months.

To use these aligners, you will be able to do the work at home. Just fit them right over the teeth and keep them in for 22 hours a day. It is possible to remove these aligners to help clean your teeth and to eat so they don’t get as messy or ruined. Unlike some of the metal braces that were used in the past, it is possible to eat the sticky, crunchy, and hard foods under the treatment. And you can remove these aligners to floss and keep the teeth healthy.
