The advantages of having a shipping container shed

We have been using shipping containers for storage for many years now but only relatively recently has the shipping container craze kicked into gear. People are now converting them into homes, pools and sheds at an alarming rate. Durable and sturdy the trusty shipping container is a great base to work from for many applications, today we will concentrate on the advantages of owning a shipping container shed.

Built to Last

The standard life of a shipping container is pretty brutal, packed with heavy loads and shipped across the seas, they are built to withstand a battering. Life at sea changes quickly and on any one trip, they more than likely will experience the four seasons and have to be able to handle it. Made from steel and with heavy steel hinges and handles the shipping container is perfect for all the Aussie climate has to offer. The construction of a shipping container cannot be easily destroyed or degraded. Even after years, the integrity and structural soundness are still intact for re-purposing as temporary shelters.

Easily Modified

Because of its unique design, the shipping container can be easily modified, whether that be to join two containers together or cutting out holes for windows or better access. Being steel they are easy to weld together and an angle grinder is all you need to cut yourself a window. Many a man shed has been created with one or more shipping containers as they are very secure and can store a lot of gear in it.

The Sky is the limit

The only limit to what you can do with a shipping container conversion is your imagination. If you are looking for maximum space, they are stackable and you could make a two or three-story shed very easily. By placing two sheds parallel and using a container dome there is already ready-made accommodation for your in-laws when they come to visit. If you feel inclined you could even run power out to the shed, just to be nice.

No Slab required

Unlike building a new shed from scratch a container shed doesn’t need a concrete slab laid for a foundation. Just find a relatively flat piece of ground and away you go, there are ways to level them if the ground isn’t the best though but no concrete costs mean it's more money in your pocket to play with.
