Stress is present in the lives of most people, from students to professionals, to different degrees. A little stress from time to time may be good for you, but if it's becoming something constant and debilitating, it's time to do something about it.
Here are 5 things you can do to lower your stress levels:
1. AVOID CAFFEINE, ALCOHOL AND NICOTINE .
To lower your stress levels, avoid the intake of stimulants. Things like caffeine, alcohol and nicotine can leave you even more stressed. Overall, being a healthy person helps you cope with stress. So it's a good idea to consume fruit, drink water whenever you're thirsty, and opt for healthy eating options.
2. MAKE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY .
Stressful situations increase levels of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones leave your body in a "fight or flight" state to protect you from immediate threats, leaving your body tense and ready to fight for survival. Unfortunately, this is not very useful against the threats of the modern world. But this energy can be dissipated with physical exercise. Something light as a daily run or a walk may already be enough to make you calmer in your everyday life. So, why not try these out? Just try it.
3. SLEEP MORE .
Lack of sleep significantly worsens stress levels in your body. At the same time, stress disrupts sleep, preventing you from falling asleep with persistent thoughts of what is bothering you. To avoid this vicious circle, stop doing stressful activities hours before bed, and create a sleep routine that includes something relaxing before you go to bed. It's a good idea to always sleep at the same time to get your body to relax on a daily basis.
4. ATTEMPT RELAXING TECHNIQUES .
Relaxation is a skill that can be trained over time, and there are several techniques for doing this. One of the easiest ones is self hypnosis. It can be done anywhere, very quickly, and consists of repeating a comforting word or phrase until your mind absorbs it. You can choose something like "calm," "love," "peace," or "I deserve calmness in my life," "Give me serenity."
5. TALK TO SOMEONE .
Stress can prevent you from thinking clearly about the situation at hand, turning a small inconvenience into a major disaster. Another person can help you get out of this line of thinking, as well as distract you from stressful thoughts.
