Thickeners and Gums
They are often used to improve the taste and viscosity of the protein shake. Ingredients like xanthan gum and carrageenan are examples of commonly used thickeners in protein powders which are the main cause of bloating, constipation, and gas.
Soy Protein
Deemed as “Vegan Protein” are usually derived from genetically modified sources with high pesticide use. The chemicals from these pesticides often lead to hormonal imbalance in both men and women.
Artificial Sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners such as sucralose, Splenda (955), or aspartame are often added to protein powders. Consumption of these sweeteners can cause weight gain and migraines.
Milk Solid or Skim Milk POWDER
Often used as a bulking agent, milk solids or powder can usually be found in low-quality protein powder. Your body cannot efficiently absorb this form of protein; hence you do not get your money's worth of protein per scoop.
They are high in lactose sugars too and can cause bloating.
Fillers
They are often added as an ingredient to add mass to the protein and save cost on the amount of protein per scoop.
Fillers can cause gastric distress, bloating, and constipation. Examples of fillers are coconut flour or Maltodextrin.
Gluten
With ingredients like stabilizers and/or preservatives, chances are your protein powder probably contains gluten ingredients as well. Examples of such ingredients are hydrolyzed wheat protein, malt, or seafood modified food starch.

It is highly advised to read the product label before you make your purchase. As often as not, they consist of ingredients/substances that are beneficial for our health. So try to read labels and avoid these ingredients from your protein powder.
