As a volunteer in India, you may be interested in knowing how life will be when you start the volunteer in India program. Organizations has done everything possible to ensure that your stay during the volunteer program will not only be enjoyable but also a learning process.
While out in a foreign country, one of the things that worries many is finding a decent place to stay. Immediately after you land in the country, you’ll need a place to rest as well as spend a night. Hotel accommodation may prove to be expensive especially when you are a volunteer or on a budget trip. Organizations have provided volunteers with a place to stay for the duration they will be in country on the volunteer program. Volunteers do not have to worry as all the arrangements have been made at no extra cost, the accommodation cost is included in the program fee. Volunteers are supposed to share rooms including bathrooms and toilets. However the accommodation provided allows the occupants some personal space. The base camp is a large shared area where the volunteers spend their spare time. There are recreational areas where the volunteers can prepare and plan their work, they can watch movies as well as relax here. Every week on Friday, the volunteers meet at the communal and recreational area where they can unwind from the week as well as enjoy a drink. Here the volunteers exchange views as well as share their experiences. It is a time for learning and socializing, the best thing about it is that people from different parts of the country are in one location. It is a meeting with an international touch, something that can only happen here.
Another thing that bothers visitors in a foreign country is food. You are moving into a new country, a foreign country where people do things which are totally different from where you come from. It can be terrifying when presented with a meal that you have never tasted before, it can be disturbing when you think that the kind of food that you’ll be eating is what is considered taboo. It can also be disturbing when the foods you call a delicacy are not allowed in a country where you visit. All these are possibilities especially when you are visiting a country that practices a totally different culture from what you are used to. A place where customs are different from those you have experienced in any part of the world. We understands that people are coming from different parts of the world and have diverse customs and cultures. The organization respects people’s culture, it embraces diversity. Volunteers are provided with meals that they will enjoy, the organization does not force people to consume what they are not used to. There are three meals which are provided at the base camp every day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. For those who would like to prepare some snacks or a cup of coffee or tea, kitchen utensils are provided. For those who are vegetarian, your interests are well taken care of, the base camp has one or two dishes specifically for vegetarians served along with rice or flat bread. Indians like their food spicy, something that may not go well with those who are not used to the flavors. we makes dishes which are light in spices, although for those who would like to have their food hot, additional chilies are served. For those who may like special dishes due to various reasons, this can be arranged, the volunteer only need to speak to the manager who will facilitate this. For those who opt to dine outside the arrangements, one can visit local hotels and restaurants but will be required to take care of the cost. Meals are relatively cheaper especially in the local hotels and restaurants.
Volunteer in India will definetly be plesant and memorable!
