Galvanized Pipe

Be aware when buying an older house that the pipes may be made of galvanized steel. If this is so, it is likely that the pipes have built up sediment inside. This will commonly allow for leaks in the pipes, especially at the joints. It can also cause the water to appear light brown or rusty colored.

If problems are not immediately noticed, the pipes do not necessarily have to be replaced. It is recommended, however, that the pipes are continually inspected.

Basement Plumbing

When looking to renovate the basement plumbing, be sure to take into consideration the possibility of flooding. Adding a bathroom in the basement is the most difficult place to add a bathroom because you have to cut through thick concrete to add the pipes. Also, generally an ejector is necessary to push the water up against gravity and into the sewer system.

Laundry Room Plumbing

In most homes, the laundry room is one of the rooms that takes in the most water. The washing machine can take in so much water, that lack of constant care could cause flooding damage. Here are some tips for preventive care on laundry room plumbing.

1. Check water supply lines often. Any sign of decay, bubbling, or tears in the line should warn the owner to replace the line as soon as possible.
