Barbiturate anticonvulsants are a class of medications that the activity of the central nervous system and are derived from barbituric acid. Barbiturate anticonvulsants boost the inhibitory GABA’s activity and prevent the discharge that would trigger a seizure. Barbiturates boost GABA’s efficacy and make it easier for GABA to open channels via GABA.
Except for absence seizures, barbiturates are used to treat all types of seizures.
