AT & T, the number one telecommunications carrier in the United States, said it will begin commercial testing of 400G Ethernet speeds in early 2017, making it the first operator to show 400GbE services in the industry. The carrier said that 400GbE will bring many benefits to AT & T's business users, including faster upload and download speeds, more bandwidth and faster video streaming, among others.

From 2007 to 2015, data traffic on the AT & T network grew by more than 150,000 percent. With the growth of traffic on the network, the introduction of 400GbE is a natural process. It can not only provide the next generation of network speed, meet more flexible user needs, but also conform to the trend towards software center network transfer. udz8812

AT & T's 400G Ethernet test will be conducted in three phases:

The first phase: AT & T's long-range global backbone network from New York to Washington, using Coriant's optical networking equipment to run true 400GbE services, shows that AT & T's national software-centric network is ready for 400G.

Phase II: AT & T's OpenROADM metro network, using Ciena's optical network equipment, through a single 400G wavelength test 400GbE, show AT & T is ready for Metro users 400GbE transmission. sma809

The third stage: the first test 400GbE open router platform. The "non-convergence router" platform using commercial silicon and open source software, is the industry's first.
