STMicroelectronics (STMicroelectronics) (STMicroelectronics), the world's leading semiconductor supplier, announces the latest Telemaco automotive processors across multiple electronics applications. Designed specifically to support feature-rich interconnect driving services, the new product dramatically improves processing performance and data security.

In-vehicle telematics systems monitor in-vehicle sensor data and exchange data between the vehicle and the network cloud. Today's in-vehicle telematics systems are becoming increasingly complex to support a variety of high-value vehicle driving services, including vehicle fault diagnosis, roadside assistance and over-the-air (OTA) upgrades. End users will also benefit from infotainment features such as location services, reading personal content on their phones, and contact information. According to the ABI Research report, 72 percent of new vehicles sold worldwide in the year 2021 will be equipped with vehicle-mounted telematics systems. At the same time, it also provides opportunities for back-loading markets, OEMs, and independent in-vehicle telematics companies. fs400r07a1e3

STMicroelectronics' Telemaco concept helps consumers acquire these advanced interconnect driving services through a single-chip integrated vehicle-mounted messaging system processor, secure networking technology and high-quality sound signal processing systems to provide automotive manufacturers with a cost-effective single Chip automotive processor solutions. Other similar products on the market usually use the application processor or integrated CPU (central processing unit) of the GSM modem. STMicroelectronics' newest Telemaco3 is specifically designed for in-vehicle telematics systems that provide flexible network type selection, for example, with the option to connect 2G, 3G or 4G networks. At the same time, the encryption algorithm hardware accelerator to strengthen the processor and the car itself between the network security, Gigabit Ethernet support and Wi-Fi module optional configuration (can be used as vehicle hot spots) to expand the vehicle interconnection function .

"Today's connected driving applications allow owners to see how car-based communications services can make driving and traveling fun," said Antonio Radaelli, director of infotainment at STMicroelectronics' Automotive Digital Products Division. "More complex new driving services will also be available in the future. As the only controller manufacturer in the industry dedicated to in-vehicle telematics and networking, the new Telemaco3 chip delivers the processing power required to support next-generation Internet-connected driving services, enabling developers in the aftermarket to develop exciting products . The Telemaco3 product family includes products such as the STA1175, STA1185, and STA1195, with options such as the number of CAN interfaces and DSP subsystems that allow designers to flexibly expand their designs. At present new products to major customers with samples, and plans in 2017 December mass production.

Technical Description

Compared to the previous generation Telemaco2, Telemaco3 product family to enhance the vehicle-owned information processing and vehicle networking performance. This high-performance, efficient chip area processor, Telemaco3 processing speed from 700 DMIPS to 2500 DMIPS, to enhance the rate of up to 2.5 times.

The on-chip ARM® Cortex ™ -M3 microcontroller is specifically designed to manage the interface security between the host processor and the vehicle CAN network. It supports the latest CAN-FD variable data transfer rate standards for higher data transfer rates And communication efficiency. In addition, the new hardware acceleration encryption engine to further strengthen the data validation and system upgrade to verify the wireless download.

DSP sound subsystem is an optional feature, the noise cancellation function can enhance the quality of car interconnection applications.

Peripheral interface for system designers to bring high performance and design flexibility. These interfaces include external interfaces for connecting CAN-FD drives, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® wireless modules, analog power outputs, flash memory, and DDR3 SDRAM. The on-chip DDR3 controller allows designers to select the high-performance memory that is common to the PC market.

Power management circuitry helps simplify design and saves on external components, reducing material costs. In addition, always run the circuit to ensure that the basic functions of the system are in a ready state. At the same time intelligent start function to ensure that the processor can quickly handle events such as CAN interrupt, the two functions contribute to minimizing the car battery load, while allowing events to be processed quickly.

Software development support includes a feature-rich Linux kernel and Board-Support Package (BSP), which includes communication protocols and navigation software. The core of the FreeRTOS operating system of the Cortex-M3 subsystem helps accelerate project development and enables the use of the scale advantages of the Linux open source ecosystem.
