The men's ice hockey team continues the momentum of the women's 3x3 team, which won a thrilling silver medal. National team striker Min Dong-wook (Bundang Middle School) strengthened his resolve, saying, “I will roar from the highest place.”
The men's ice hockey (6-a-side) national team will participate in the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games (Gangwon 2024) to be held at the Gangneung Hockey Center in Gangwon-do starting on the 27th.
There are 6 men's ice hockey teams participating in this tournament. The Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the United States were in Group A, while Korea was in Group B along with Canada and Finland.
It is possible to advance to the semifinals by winning just one of the two group games, but realistically, this is not easy. This is because both Canada and Finland are teams that are considered traditional ice hockey powerhouses.
However, national team striker Min Dong-wook said he would boldly face the challenge.
He said, “I want to achieve good results as I have prepared hard,” and added, “My goal for this competition is to be first place. “I want to achieve that goal and roar,” he said.
Min Dong-wook, who started playing ice hockey in the first grade of elementary school, began his career as a professional player in the fifth grade. Although he is still in his third year of middle school, he already boasts a confident 183cm physique, and he considers 'speed' as his advantage.
Min Dong-wook said, “I think speed is my strength. He said, “I wish he was just 2cm taller, but he lacks physical strength so he needs to improve further.”
His role model is the late NBA star player Kobe Bryant. This means that although he felt a lot of pressure from receiving a lot of attention since childhood, he eventually overcame this and rose to the top and wanted to emulate him.
Min Dong-wook said, “I want to learn Kobe’s mindset. “I also want to become a great player with a good mindset,” he said.
The ultimate goal as a player is to advance to overseas leagues. To this end, I believe that Gangwon 2024 will be a good experience.
Min Dong-wook said, “I am happy and looking forward to working with great fellow players,” and expressed his determination, saying, “Finland and Canada will also have to be careful about Korea.” 섯다
