The event is being organised by the college in partnership with Carlisle PR and social media agency, Intro, on November 22.
It will focus on how firms can best encourage staff to make the most of social media and other digital marketing skills with an employers’ panel featuring contributions from Armstrong Watson, Bruce & Luke’s and The Cumberland.
It will also be a chance to hear about how the next generation of digital dropshiping marketeers are being trained in new apprenticeships at the college.
Andrew Dodds, director of business development and marketing at Carlisle College, said: “I think most businesses can see that there are benefits in social media and digital marketing, but they find that getting take up around the business is a challenge, particularly from those outside the marketing function.
“So, our discussion will cover some useful ideas about using digital marketing, including the apprenticeship training route, but I’m also hoping we can hear from businesses about the best ways to encourage all staff to make most of the opportunities to blog, use social media and promote the business online in a coordinated and strategic way.”
The event will also hear from Nick Turner and Helen Statham, of Intro, which helps several leading Cumbrian businesses with their digital marketing.
After launching its digital marketing apprenticeship in September, Carlisle College and already has eight students learning everything from website development to marketing and business principles. They are working towards a nationally recognised qualification in social media strategy by Certified Internet Web Professional.
Apprentices attend college one day a week, which allows them to share their knowledge with their employers who include Butterworths and Carlisle City Council and SP Training.
Donna-Marie Brown, marketing manager at SP Training, said “I was delighted to find that Carlisle College were introducing a digital marketing apprenticeship and worked with them to sign up one of our employees who is now both enjoying the course and benefiting from it.
"Each week he is learning new skills, which we are already seeing him put into practice in the workplace.”
