How to Fix Wood Floor

When doing renovations in a home or business, the wood flooring can prove to be the most difficult part to fix. Say you are removing a wall between two rooms and then have a gaping hole in the nice wood floor. One option will be to redo all the wood floor. But that is expensive and time-consuming. What if there was a way to repair just that section of the floor without redoing everything? Or what if you buy an office that you are setting up to be used by your company and the floors are scratched and dented? How will you repair existing and seemingly ruined wood floors?

Here are a few tips that you can use to do your own wood floor repair

  • When fixing scratches or dents, apply wood putty. Start by applying it to a small and hidden portion of the floor to be sure you have the right color. As it dries, it will appear to be a different color.
  • If the floor has unsightly dents that cannot be covered by putty, try refinishing it. Wood has the unique quality of being able to be made almost new. This can make your wood floors shining, but can also take more time than wanted. A professional flooring contractor may be required for a job this big.
  • If replacing a gap created in the floor, remember that it will take time to find the right wood. Check your local Home Depot or other hardwood store and check the flooring and lumber departments. Check width and grain types to find the right wood. Then test different dyes and stains to find the perfect color.

If you don't want to spend personal time to fix the floors, be sure to check with local wood floor specialists to help you repair your floor. Facility Solutions can provide hardwood floor repair in southeast Idaho.
