The China Passenger Elevator are what is really scaring the neighbors

Backup generators eventually powered up that Passenger Elevator and emergency lights for the stairwells. Crews said they were able to get all 130 residents out. "We have 10 degree weather as you can very well feel and we want to make sure safety is first and foremost," said Rich Fontana, with New Haven Emergency Management. Many residents had to call family to pick them up. "I was just worried with her asthma,” said Marisol Lopez-Castro, who picked up her mother. “And everyone here has medical issues that can't be properly addressed when you lose power." Emergency officials said they took down the names, numbers and locations of everyone who was evacuated so they can contact them when it's safe to return. One firefighter did suffer from chest pains and was taken to the hospital. Two residents were also put on oxygen. Everyone is expected to be OK. The Red Cross was also on the scene to assist anyone who needed help.

Graffiti with words of China Elevator have been scattered all over the inside of an apartment building in West Haven, leaving its residents terrified.

The anti-Semitic and racial slurs were written at least four different times over the past few days, and police are also investigating a fire in the same building that was reportedly set intentionally. Some of the threats have been written on an elevator wall. One of them said, "the tenants of this building will burn," and just hours after police visited the building to report vandalism, there was a fire set in the downstairs garage.

Tenant Jodie Anderson said she thinks the threats are coming from someone who lives in the building because there is a key entry. Anderson said there were Nazi and KKK references in some of the graffiti.

Police have been frequenting the building as they continue to investigate and were able to obtain a fingerprint from one of the messages because they said it may have been written with stain and a finger.
