Covid-19: How To Maintain Equipment Safety

Since the coronavirus pandemic swept through our lives, we've all been much more aware of the significance of proper cleanliness practises and social separation.

Hand sanitizer is now the norm whenever we enter a building or touch any objects, and facemasks are used in interior environments where social distancing is difficult

It's more crucial than ever to make sure that all of our work-related personal protection equipment is also sanitised.

The coronavirus is believed to spread from person to person via inhalation, coughing, or sneezing of wet particles. Direct inhalation from an infected person or indirect transmission from contaminated surfaces like clothing, body parts, and other items like equipment are both possible routes into the body.

As a result of the revised standards, the manner in which we handle, utilise, and store personal protective equipment for both training courses and trained rescue teams coverage has altered to guarantee that our employees and customers remain safe throughout the pandemic.

What to Expect from a PPE Kit for a Training Course

Many of our trained rescue teams candidates packed their own clean PPE, including a safety helmet, full-length overalls, hand protection, and eye protection, even before the coronavirus took our lives. Because most of our courses entail hands-on training outside of the classroom, this has always been necessary.

Gloves and facemasks

We do, however, now provide some additional COVID-19 PPE for all delegates as part of our revised COVID-19 guidelines and risk assessments. Medical facemasks and nitrile (powder-free) disposable gloves are the most common items in this category.

When attending our training classes, our instructors and candidates must wear medical-grade facemasks if a 2 metre social distance is not possible. When completing several of our practical activities, this is common. Facemasks keep everyone safe.

Candidates are recommended to replace their nitrile disposable gloves on a frequent basis or as needed for specific areas of the training to avoid any skin-to-skin contact.

Devices for Safety

We recognise the importance of keeping everyone safe, so we now offer all delegates personal protective equipment (PPE) for use exclusively while training with us. We've bought more rope access equipment, such as harnesses, fall arrests, and fall restraints, and we make sure everything is clean before using it to reduce the danger of a transfer.

When doing any confined space or work at height rescue cover, we have devised a set of operating standards and procedures that all of our experienced rescue teams adhere to.

This includes the following personal protective equipment (PPE):

  • Wearing disposable nitrile gloves on the job at all times, with additional hand protection if needed by risk assessment.
  • Cleaning equipment after each use or doing pre-use inspections on a regular basis on-site (e.g. radios, gas monitors, BA, etc)
  • Any used breathing apparatus, oxygen resuscitator, analgesic gas, or other potentially contaminated equipment will be removed by the individual wearer (if applicable), placed in its own bag, and then placed in a disposable bag that will be tied off.
