Chelsea defeats Fulham to move into eighth place.
Chelsea recorded a 1-0 victory over Fulham in the 21st round of the 2023-24 Premier League (PL) season at Stamford Bridge in London, England, on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. ET. With the three points, Chelsea moved above Manchester United into eighth place in the standings.
Chelsea brought a 4-3-3 formation. Sterling, Broja, Palmer, Gallagher, Caicedo, Enzo, Colwill, Silva, Dissahsi, and Gusto started, with Petrovic in goal. Against them, Fulham utilized a 4-2-3-1 formation. Jimenez, Willian, Pereyra, Wilson, Careney, Palinha, Robinson, Diop, Adarabioyo, and Tetteh filled out the starting lineup, with Leno in goal.
Chelsea opened the scoring. In the 15th minute, after a pass from Palmer, Gallagher tried his luck with a left-footed shot from outside the box, but it went over the bar. Chelsea took the momentum. In the 21st minute, Enzo's cross was met by Broja in the box, but his header went wide left of the goal.
Fulham fought back. In the 26th minute, Pereyra received a pass from Wilson and fired a right-footed shot from outside the box that was blocked by the keeper. Fulham went on the attack. In the 27th minute, Wilson fired a right-footed shot from inside the box from a Robinson cross that was saved by the keeper.
Fulham continued to attack. In the 37th minute, Cairney took a left-footed shot from outside the box off a pass from Willian, but it went wide left of the goal. In the final minutes of the first half, Chelsea took the lead. In first-half stoppage time, Sterling was fouled by Diop in the box and the referee awarded a penalty kick. Palmer stepped up to take the spot kick and calmly finished to give Chelsea the lead. The first half ended with Chelsea holding the lead.
Chelsea had the first shot of the second half. Six minutes into the second half, Gusto's pass found Palmer just outside the box for a mid-range shot that sailed over the bar. Chelsea would be disappointed. In the eighth minute of the second half, Sterling received a cross from Enzo and attempted a header from inside the box, but it hit the post.
Fulham also pushed for an equalizer. In the 10th minute of the second half, Robinson's cross was met by Jimenez in the box, but his header went over the bar. Fulham 안전놀이터 gained momentum. In the 28th minute, Pereyra's pass found Jimenez in the box, but his left-footed shot was saved by the keeper.
Fulham were on the attack. In the 37th minute, Jimenez took a pass from Palinha and tried a right-footed shot from some distance, but it went wide left of the goal. There were no further goals and the game ended with a 1-0 victory for Chelsea.
