While some RuneScape players discuss stories

"Rev caves are the only thing that stops me from being compassionate towards them," reads one reply on Reddit in a RuneScape thread about Venezuelan RuneScape players. "Nothing frustrates me walking in each world and being attacked by an army of rune crossbows and snake bandanas." "Jagex has to RuneScape gold do something about these Venezuelans," the other RuneScape player wrote, adding:"I don't care about their real-life circumstance. They perform RuneScape solely for monetary gain and it is destroying the economy. They provide nothing to RuneScape, they don't interact within the community."

While some RuneScape players discuss stories about their negative connections with Venezuelans, other RuneScape players, like Pip Johnson, aren't as crucial about them. In reality, Johnson sympathises with the problem that Venezuelan RuneScape players have found themselves, and describes his experience with a single Venezuelan RuneScape participant as"the first real experience" he's had with the other RuneScape player online in more than 15 years, after he had been talented items and provided advice on the best methods to level up. "I really do think that the Venezuelan economy is in shambles is terrible, and I do not blame anyone there for making money in almost any way they can, regardless of any impact it may have on RuneScape," Johnson states.

"Any one of us could do the same." There's an influx of memes on websites such as Reddit parodying the scenario which Venezuelan RuneScape players have seen themselves. Johnson believes that they've become an easy goal in the RuneScape community for people looking to make jokes at the expense of someone else. "Some RuneScape players believe RuneScape players are taking advantage of RuneScape for personal profit and [that] they shouldn't be," he continues. "There's also a great deal of racism in the online gambling community. Since they are so prevalent venezuelans are an easy target. Their population in RuneScape is now a bit of a meme locally and this brings even more focus on them specifically."

The creator of the contentious Reddit post detailing how to kill Venezuelan RuneScape players at RuneScape, who wants to be understood only as Sam, informs Polygon that his article was misinterpreted by viewers, and was just meant to be a"dark joke" comparing Venezuelan RuneScape players to bots. He says he was surprised at how quickly the thread escalated into comments. Asked if he felt guilty seeing the responses to the ribbon, along with the impact that encouraging RuneScape players to target RuneScape players from Venezuela could have on this group, he says:"I mean, if there was a circumstance where someone lost four hours of farming, then I'd surely feel guilty. Allow me to be clear: I really do believe [that] if anyone or RS 2007 Gold me was actually having an impact on individuals' lives doing so, we'd feel guilty. I think what disturbs people is the potential of the impacting people, though that's unrealistic."
